The Sustainability Trust
The Sustainability Trust is a not-for-profit community organisation set up to address environmental and sustainable development issues through education and affirmative action.
The Trust is based at the Trash Palace Environment Centre near Spicer Landfill in Porirua, which was opened in February 2004 by the Mayor for Porirua City and the Minister for the Environment. The Sustainability Trust was set up to:
- Provide environmental education and training
- Provide sustainability information and resources
- Provide advice and assistance to individuals and community groups
- Provide practical examples of sustainable technologies and techniques
- Encourage and facilitating the participation of individuals and community groups in sustainable development
- Promote individual and community initiatives that foster sustainable development
The aim of the Environmental Education Centre is to educate and encourage behaviour change towards a more sustainable future. To find out more, go to our Trash Palace Education Centre page. The Centre runs a variety of environmental initiatives and community projects to support this aim:

- The ‘Warm Homes’ Insulation Project run through EECA’s Energy Wise Home Grants scheme, which offers low cost housing insulation to low income houses in Porirua and the greater Wellington region.
